|and drop us a few tidbits once in awhile from road bike heaven! I spent a glorious 8 months in Mannheim, near where the Necker River joins the Rhine. There's a castle on every mountain, a cafe in the courtyard, where visitors sample white wine from the cultivated grapes grown for centuries in the vinyards on the slopes.
We (US Army) did a field exercise in the woods outside Heidelberg, and every evening, elderly townspeople dressed in tweed, with ornate walking sticks, walked up from the village below, as we later found out, to a bierstube, that couldn't have been a city block from where we camped.
The German people take care of their environment, and they love cycling. Have a great time!

|I was stationed in Bavaria in the early 80's and rode a Peugeot while there, from experience I would heartily recomend that you include a small but comprehensive tool kit as well as some loctite in your saddle bag. Even the relatively smooth German cobbles will jar every nut and bolt loose on your bike in a matter of hours. Enjoy your time there, make the most of it, it's a beautiful country.|| |
