Advise on NEW BIKE for groups rides in Austinpcwheels

I am going to buy a new bike this Saturday and start with a big group ride in Austin (lead by our local hero). I want a steel road bike with at least Ultegra. Anyway, I have looked at three bikes from three dealers in Austin. A Mercier, LeMond, and Bianchi -- all three are Reynolds with Ultegra. sites are cyclesmercier.com; lemondbikes.com; bianchi.com. The Mercier Serpens is on sale at $1255; the Lemond Zurich at $1950; and Bianchi is $1675. But I am kinda ruling out the Bianchi since it is lower grade tubing.
The Lemond and Mercier are both Reynolds 853 {the Mercier also has a Reynolds Ouzo? fork}. The Lemond seems a bit 'long' - does that make sense? In summary, the Mercier seems like a much better deal - lower price and better bike. Any thoughts or advise?
Mercier is the best deal - in my opinioncentury2

I have had a Mercier Serpens for 2 months. I love it! the ride is great, workmanship is fantastic and I got a great deal [not as good you seem to have found in Austin] ~ mine is Gray/Black but I notice they have the same model in dark blue/black on bikesdirect.com. Seems there is a new color not listed on mercier's site; anyway your LBS price is about the same as buying online - and the bike has the best value out of the 3 bikes you are looking at. So buy it and have fun
Lemond has the best resale.AustinTexasRider

The Lemond would be my choice. If you decide to sell any of the three later on, the Lemond will give the most money back.

Boy, your waiting until the last minute to buy this thing before Sunday. I hope you're only doing the 10 miler.

See you Sunday.......
best resale - how about total cost of owning?century2

Who knows which bike will have the best resale? Or if you will even want to resale? But at $800 more to start with - there is no way the cost of owning the Lemond would be less than the Mercier -- after 3 years of riding - the Lemond MIGHT be worth $800 total -- and what does not even count the interest -- PLUS it takes a fork upgrade to make the Lemond equal to the Mercier to start.

I'd go with the Mercier. Terrific website, too, by the way. What color Mercier should I look for in Austin at the ride Sunday?
