Lotions, potions, balms, and secret herbs and spices...LC

I tried some Tiger Balm yesterday to try to keep my legs warm on a cold rainy day, but I don't think I found the right mix yet. It made my skin warm and tingly, but did not really keep my muscles warm. I also tryed vasaline before too, and it just keeps the water from sticking to my legs, but not really warm. Maybe I should mix them together?

Anyone have any secret sauce to warm their legs?

I use Tiger Balm with a coat of vasaline. I've seen various types for sale in the Colorado Cyclist catalog, they are classified acccording to the temperature. Tiger Balm gets expensive after awhile...

Thee is an article on embrocation up on www.nwracereport.com
(an excellent site, IMHO). Also look at the letters section for responses to the article for some other suggestions.

I've used Born products, particularly the warming lotion and waxey covering. Like you said, it makes your skin feel warm, but I doubt it does anything for muscles. All it does is dilate capillaries in the skin, I think. The waxey stuff makes it last a little longer, and sheds water a bit. It can make your skin really yucky if you ride through a swarm of gnats, though.

I was a bit concerned that if this stuff is causing more blood to go to the skin, that's less blood going to muscles. Any thoughts on that?
