i know im kind of late on this one, but i saw it on an earlier posting.... significant other works at trek and i forwarded the posting about canondale making treks aluminum frames. she asked engineering and a slew of other people and this info is all news to them. they are, however very intrigued by this........
I think the source of the rumor,TJeanloz

If I recall correctly, but I could be entirely wrong, the source was the web's most credible expert, Raouf at Spokes in Chicago...

most in company won't have any clue before "strategic" decision is made up on top.

Cannondale probably is the best Al mfg "on a whole damn thing", not sure if they can compete pricewise with Giant whom Trek farms out low end Al frame production. If it's high end only, then there're people to get laid off /and another reason to keep it quiet/

trek is not the "giant" corporation that some people believe it to be. i have been there numerous times.... its actually rather small. very efficient, clean, and well organized. i understand "how the corporate machine works", but at trek, "the top" is a couple doors down from your cubicle. it really is a very (for lack of a better way to put it) family run, and family oriented place. i heard of, and had seen their custom painting program 6 months before it was public. same with several bikes. they dont hide much within the company.

I have my doubts about Canny making Trek's AL bikes. I know that Cannondale farms out a bunch of their stuff to local comapnies. My Dad's company (until he retired last fall) for example was making the disks for Cannondale's motorcycles and ATV's. They don't farm out any frame work but they make very few of the Coda marked parts in house(like the forks which I beleive are Time).

Absolutely untrue.

I have a good friend there as well and he said that this is NOT going to happen, not even feasible.
