Shimano SIS shifter problem...(3 posts)

Shimano SIS shifter problem...b_spiwak

I have Shimano Tiagra SIS shifters/brake levers on my bike. They are fairly new, less than one year old, and haven't been through too much since I don't race and I try not to ride in the rain (although sometimes I do...). Anyway, recently they have developed a lot of play, so that when I go to brake or shift, the lever moves about an inch before I actually feel it pulling the cable. What can I do to fix this problem?

...you need your cables adjusted. I can't be sure without looking at your bike, but it sounds like your cables have come slightly out of adjustment. Try a trip to the bike shop, or search out a good thread on this board about adjusting cable tension, and you should be set.

The calipers have cable adjusters on them that may offer enough adjustment to take the slop out.
