|I too, cycle a portion of Duke St. to work some mornings. May Jose rest in peace and let's keep his family in our prayers. Today's Washington Post story doesn't go into details, but here it is:
Truck Hits, Kills Alexandria Bicyclist
A 33-year-old Alexandria man riding his bike to work was killed yesterday when he was struck by a dump truck and dragged a short distance, police said.
The dump truck driver was turning right onto Dove Street from Duke Street about 7:30 a.m. when he ran over the cyclist, Jose Cabrera, police said. Cabrera was trapped under the truck for a short time before rescue workers freed him, they said.
Cabrera was flown to Washington Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:30.
Again, let's make sure we're visible by what we wear and be careful. Some riders don't like to share the road with us. I live in Alexandria, but cycling in Maryland is so much more reassuring.
