|protein/water/sports drink before and or during training?||zeke|

|I am about to begin training for a 3day 450k ride and am wondering what to do about refreshment before and during the ride.
I plan to carbo load before, while during I plan to carry and eat dried fruit, eg figs or prunes. I am using these fruits during training now and am quite happy with them, though this is my first training experience and have nothing to compare them with.
Also, my drink at the moment is water.
So, to get to my questions
I saw a post about protien being important for long rides, thus, should I add some form of protein during the ride? If so what?
Also would a sports drink be necessary or beneficial during the ride, or is water adequate?

|I find it harder to digest protein during the event, and stick to carbs and maybe a high-fat snack while I'm riding. I do look for some protein immediately after the ride - Balance Bars are a favorite. For multi-day events I eat protein, and some fat, at every meal between rides and then carbs while I'm riding.|

|Try Sustained Energy. It has complex carbs and protein.
I rode 250 miles at 19.5 mph solo Saturday with nothing else (except salt).
The 4 essential ingredients for long rides are water, carbs, protein, and salt. SE, water, and salt get you there, with nothing you don't need.
|thanks i will check out SE now. (nm)||zeke|
