|Bike New York? Fun? Not fun?||bill|

|I realize that it won't be much of a cycling event in the sense of screaming miles, hard and fast, but, is it fun? I like the idea of lots of cyclists out for a pleasant day checking it all out, I'm behind that, but is it too crowded to be anything but a crush?|

|I asked this same question a while ago. Apparently the trick is get there early and make sure you're at the front. That way you can get out in front of the crowd. Otherwise, it's so crowded, you can't even ride for the first few miles.|

|did this last year. it was a disaster! i got there 45 mins before the start, and we ended up half pedaling the bike half walking to radio city, then waiting an hour to go 2 blocks into central park, and then ran into similar traffic jams at most of the bridges. the absolute worst was the hour and a half wait to get on the verrazano narrows bridge. it is a shame because you do get to see some cool stuff. they should limit the field to 15,000 or so. I ehard last year they were expecting between 15 and 20,000 and ended up getting an estimated 30,000. yikes.

|That was a LONNNNNG 45 minute wait for this thing to start. My Girlfriend whined so much I nearly pitched her. Pity stayed my hand. Lets not forget the 45 minute to an hour wait for the port-o-lets in Harlem.
I didn't like it. Thought it sucked. People are pretty good natured tho. If you go, go with a lot of friends so you can joke and entertain each other during the long waits. There are a lot of them. And remember it can be COLD in the morning downtown.

less crowds better orgnised and an important time to be in new york ...lest we forget. was cancelled last year so i have not ridden it yet but hear many good things.
choice of milage options the cover all the boroughs except for staten island. the money goes to transportation alternatives who do great things for city bike riders.
friends went on bike new york but they paid their entry fee but started with a little posse about 3 blocks ahead - not nice but a better option. bike new york is more dangersous than riding in regular traffic i my opinion. not for me as i find full hockey padding ruins the line of my la vie claire jersey.
see you there ...or be sqaure

|The ride wasn't cancelled last year, it was on the 9th. It was pretty fun, but I think I should've arrived earlier. The organizers ran out of water in some of the latter stops. By the end of the ride in Central Park, I had to find a hose to drink from.
The organizers did space riders out in intervals so we didn't crowd traffic "too much".

|If you do it don't even go down to Battery park. Pick up the pack on 6th ave, and you'll be at the front. It's a fun ride, I do it with my wife and relatives. If you think you're going to be in a fast paceline you'll be very frustrated.|| |
