|'cuse the incursion, but the below relates to a buddy of mine (a non-cyclist, non athlete of any kind in fact) who each year sets himself some physical challenge to complete to help others (last year was a mountain race) - it usually near kills him, but he keeps turning out! Anyway, this year it's cycling, and I said that I'd try to help out if I could - so if anyone feels like helping someone out a little toady, here's a nice opportunity - thanks M.
Kenya Cycling Safari 2002
Dan hasn't got a bike (yet) and Miranda doesn't know what a puncture is, never mind how to deflate a tyre! But this isn't stopping us from undertaking an amazing challenge this summer.
From 13-21 July we are going to spend a week pedalling 300 miles at 6000 feet above sea level, across the equator and through the Great Rift Valley in Kenya. The terrain will be slightly different to cycling around the North Circular, hopefully with fewer traffic jams! The cycling adventure is in aid of Norwood Ravenswood and the Down's Syndrome Association.
Norwood Ravenswood cares for disadvantaged and deprived children together with people of all ages with severe learning difficulties. Its projects include day care services, homes in the community, and the Ravenswood Village - a thriving residential community in Berkshire for people with varying degrees of ability.
The Down's Syndrome Association exists to create and develop the conditions which will enable people with Down's Syndrome to attain their full potential. It provides support, information, advice and counselling to people with Down's Syndrome, their families and carers.
They are both extremely worthy causes which we hope you will support. If you would like to find out more about the work of these charities, visit www.nwrw.org or www.dsa-uk.com
We each need to raise £2250. With your help, we feel this target is easily achievable. It would be great if you could join us in Kenya, but if your idea of a summer holiday doesn't involve training for 4 months, becoming intimate with a bicycle repair kit and rare tropical diseases, then you can help in another way:
All you need to do to sponsor us is click on http://sponsor-us.to.go.to/#kenya Any amount that you can give will be greatly appreciated - you can either use your credit or debit card or print off the form and send it back to Norwood Ravenswood. Whichever you choose, please make sure you fill in both of our names (Miranda Levey and Dan Myers) in the Rider's Name box and "Kenya July" in the Ride box.
For other ways of giving or for any more information about this project please contact us at email@example.com
Thank you very much for reading and for your generous support.
