What would you do if you just won the lottery?Slipstream

Would you buy your dream bike? what kind?
Would you take your dream vacation? where?
Would you sponsor a team?
Would you donate anything (time, $) to further the cause of cycling?

Just wonderin' since its snowing and 40mph winds...

rode yesterday into same winds kept thinking about warmer days to come.

I'd relax. No more worrying about money. Of course, this all depends on how big the jackpot is? Assuming it's huge, to answer your questions:

Dream bike: How about several? Maybe a Derosa Merak. Awesome looking.
Dream Vacation: Yeah, for about another 30 years! I'd start with a relaxing couple weeks or month in Southern France and/or Tuscany.
Sponser a team? Probably not. Too much work. Remember, I'm now retired.
Donate to cycling? I guess I could build a Velodrome or bike paths. Actually, sponsering a junior team would be a lot of fun.

Actually, I wouldn't retire, just cut back a lot.

1) stop working for a living

2) wake up in the morning happy that i didn't have to work for a living

3) ride lots

4) i already donate time and skills to further the cause; the output would quadruple, at least.
two questions:Slipstream

I currently own the bike I really wanted but I think I would upgrade the component group. I would buy another type of bike(probably a cyclocross bike). I would DEFINETLY get the kids some mini BMX bikes too.
I wouldn't take a dream vacation, INSTEAD I would move. A state without a huge population, and probably mountainous.
I wouldn't sponsor a team, but I would volunteer some time to youth organizations(like scouts(HEY I already do that :) )
AND that would all occur right after I gave my "2-MINUTE- notice" to my employer

I'd move to New Zealand.
I'd buy a small house on the north of the south Ilsand.
My wife would have the sunny beach and the wine.
My dogs would have all the sheep and hills.
I could fish trout here and there... between rides.

Then ski in the Southern Alps and the next day hop on a plane back to my house here for the jazz festival and the family.

What bikes? Two identical road titanium and two identical titanium mountain bikes. All by Merlin.
How much?mr_spin

I'd definitely buy a few more bikes, and I'd definitely do the endless bike through France, Spain, Italy, etc. thing.

If I won $50 million or more, I would be much more likely to start flinging money around.

I would probably "sponsor" some of my good friends and riding buddies who do Ironmans and other races around the country and world. Pay their way and make up some crazy jerseys with some logo and scheme for my "team." Something bizaree or totally nonsensical that would confuse the other competitors and get them off their game! I don't quite have the ego to put my own name on it, but my friends don't want handouts either.

I might toss some money into a few local races to keep them going.

I would definitely fund some local projects around here. We've got some decent bike paths around here that are useful for commuting and getting to trailheads, but there are some holes in the "grid," and none of the paths connect. I'd love to plop down $1 million and say "just do it" instead of waiting years for the various cities and towns to debate it and put it out for bid. If I privately finance it, I'm sure I could do it for a quarter of the cost!

I'd also love to build a paved section for one of the biggest holes in our road riding network. Right now, the only option is a dirt path or a death inviting ride down highway 17. This would make a huge difference in the south bay and santa cruz road scene for sure.

Lastly, I'd like to help get more bike friendly candidates elected wherever I can. Or, if nothing else, at least get rid of the crusty old anti-bike folks. I hate the whole election finance process, but some of these people simply have to go.
After consulting with an estate lawyer...Tig

...then I'd make the claim for the winnings. Remember, if you don't have an estate properly set up ahead of time and you die, your family could be left out in the cold on the winnings.

Why worry over exact bikes when I'll end up having a whole QUIVER of them?! :o) Travel the world. So much to see, so little time... Buy the bikes strait from the builder when possible. Build a comfortable, yet modest home with a very large garage/workshop. No need to quit since I'm already layed off!

Plenty of time left for pleasurable things like restoring classic cars, gardening, oh, and of course, riding!

I'd support a few local junior racers, but low profile. I can think of several charities worth donating to as well. Also there are people who are poor and get burned out of their homes. I'd quietly donate to them as well.

Would you buy your dream bike? LS Vortex (custom built because I WOULD have the cash!!

Would you take your dream vacation? My wife has wanted to visit the town of Hobart on the island of Tasmania. I'd love to be able to take her.

Would you sponsor a team? Not really dialed into the racing team(s) here.

Would you donate anything (time, $) Bike paths in this area (Hampton Roads, Va). Omaha has a SUPERB bike path system, but the weather REALLY bites in the winter.
I'll second the velodrome..Cartman

being in the northeast, the winter riding can suck at times. I'd love to have a velodrome in New England. I'll also have to second the donating to bike paths ideas. Oh yea, if I had a lot of money, I could have a second house where it is warm, and I don't have to worry about snowy roads....

buy a nice house, buy a whole bunch of puppies and lots of collars with sensors that shock them when they try to go through the special underground wire fence. As a matter of fact, I can have the wire run in zig-zags so that it shocks them and they run back into the house scared sh!tless. Hehehehe. YEAH!

Don't those collars cost 200 bucks a piece? Nah, it don't matter anymore eh?

Woof, the controlling dog.

Depends on the lottery, I guess...

If it was the big one, I'd wait until the end of the semester to quit my job [I'm a university lecturer, and I wouldn't want to leave my students hanging like that]. I'd go to Italy and buy a small villa in Tuscany, to enjoy cycling in the Spring... I'd get another house in Spain's Costa Blance for the winter. I would buy three new bikes for myself -- a Look KG381i and a de Rosa Merak, both with Record, and an Empella Bonfire with Chorus -- and at least two for my GF.

I would then spend a whole year cycling and travelling around Europe. Then, I would enroll in a French university [I don't actually speak Italian or Spanish], to finish my Ph.D. [which I would do mostly from home in Italy, having transferred my course work credits from my university in Canada].

After all of that, I would settle down to a quiet life of cycling and writing books.

Well, first I would get me to a Porsche dealer and trade the M3 on a GT2 (and maybe a "regular" Turbo for rainy days). Then after getting a rack installed on my new Hummer, I would have to trade the C-dale on a spanking new C-40 with a set of Lews. Probably keep the Jekyll and the Pisgah for the time being. Well, maybe trade the Jekyll on a Seven Sola. Need a new cross bike too....
Next, move, somewhere along the outer banks on NC and build a winter house in Jackson Hole.
Sponsor a team? Maybe juniors. Someone did that for me years ago and I'd like to return the favor.
Would also have to spend some serious time enriching Mark Levinson, Krell and B&W while I'm at it.
Spend a month every year seeing the tour in person.
I'd still run my company but let me partner handle the day to day crud.
Oh, well, that was fun, now back to work....
