GVH Bikes rules!!dust

Well I just wanted to write and Say that Gary Hobbs at GVH Bikes is the only way to buy a bike.
For the last 10 months I have been pining to buy a new road bike and get away from my MTB (not entirely). It was a long journey of visiting every LBS in town and spending countless nights glued to my PC surfing the web. I have read hundreds of postings from roadbike review and have had a dozen bike options come and go. Based on my test rides and the average experiences of all you out there. I have gone through every possible option of frame type. Luckily my budget was limited per orders of the Mrs., or else I would still be trying to decide what to get. :-)
Anyway to make a long story short I called Gary tonight and had a long chat with him about the frame and specs I wanted. He has a lifetime of knowledge and is one of the easiest guys to talk with. He asks questions not only about what you want in your bike but also about you, just to get to know you. What struck me as most impressive is he really wants you to walk out with what you need, not what you want. How many LBS's would do this?? He could have easily gotten several hundred more dollars out of me. When I called I was convinced I needed/wanted a Reynolds Ouzo Pro. He talked me out of it and said that I'm really not gaining any extra benefit other than weight. Those are the words of an honest guy. Anyway he took my order tonight said it would be ready to ship in one week. I am anxiously waiting to get my new ride. For the facts I'm getting a Cannondale CAAD4 R600 with full Campy Chorus and Mavic CXP33's all for $1804. Please don't spoil my moment by telling me if I was ripped off or not. It is a hell of a lot cheaper than any LBS and I'm glad to give my $ to GVHBikes. See you on the road!

Later!
Scot

P.S.
I was really scared of buying a bike unseen. But after seeing the LBS industry and as long as you can test ride a similar bike I really believe you will do ok with a web/phone order. Just be sure to get your measurements!!

Amen. I just went through a similar hell as you did and decided on going with GVH. Gary and GVh are truly the bomb.

I've been chiming for many years that if you're patient enough, buy on the web. LBSs need to mark up because of the middlemen involved. GVH probably has no middlemen involved, therefore he can undersell many LBSs.

If you know exactly what you want, you'd be a fool to pay more at a LBS.
OTOH, Specialized-brand accessories...JS Haiku Shop

i've been buying shoes and other stuff from specialized.com's specials page and feeling like the fox in the henhouse. aside from special mark-downs, the other stuff (current year merchandise) is the same price at my LBS. now...does shipping cost more, or less, than do taxes? hmmm...
LOTS of ways to buy on-linecentury2

you can always save money buying online - other good deals at bikesdirect.com; supergo; coloradocyclist -- I prefer a factory built bike that is new and clean -- but I like the low prices from these online sellers
