in addition to letting OLN know what a great job they are doing with expanded coverage of TdF and other cycling events (go to to express your support), there's yet another issue:
in many parts of the country OLN is not available in any form - not even through a major cable providers like AT&T Broadband. Instead, they often choose to feature "Outdoor Channel" (read: hunting and fishing channel), and ignore any pleas to add OLN to lineup, since they feel they filled the need for outdoor coverage with "Outdoor Channel" (not to be confused with OLN!).

I urge everyone to call/write your local provider about this, demanding they add OLN to their basic lineup. Even if you DO get OLN, let them know how much it is important to you!

a typical link of AT&T Broadband feedback is:

Please write them and express your support for OLN!!!

You all realize that if OLN establishes itself as a strong player among other cable networks, and will be available to a wider audience, they will be able to improve their cycling coverage, bring in better sponsors etc. etc.

We cyclists need to help each other in order to successfully lobby TV and Cable industries for more cycling coverage. Only a few months remaining till TDF-2002!

Thanks for your support.

I live in MA too, and the cable sucks! I have Directv, and am now enjoying the TDF review every weekday evening w/ supper. While your at it, tell them that you need Commedy Central too, South Park is #$*% funny!

If you're in MA, see if RCN is in your area. They are in mine and I get OLN. The best way to show a cable company that you don't like their lineup/prices/etc is to switch.

Not sure where in Mass you are, but I have att and have OLN, has your town been upgraded to digital ? do you know when it may be upgraded ? If it was not going to be upgraded for a while and you were that desperate - I would go with a dish, my father in law loves his. I think he gets both OLN and Outdoor Channel.

Thanks for suggestions.

I do have digital ATT Broadband, and I am aware that AT&T do offer OLN in many Mass towns, but in my town they don't. I wrote repeatedly to ATT about it, but all they do is refer me to their marketing studies and tell me to watch Outdoor Channel instead. The difference in demographics can't be that large between different towns in Greater Boston area. I am sure fishing/hunting enthusiasts wouldn't even notice if you switch Outdoor Channel with OLN. :)

Unfortunately, RCN is not an option where I live, and DirecTV and other dish providers are out too because I live in the woods (but if AT&T drives me completely crazy, I may chop them down as someone here suggested :) )

I guess for the time being I will ask someone to tape TdF for me, but then I have to rely on VCR-handling abilities of my friends. Bummer.

Thanks for your support, I think we need to further support OLN in any case. I haven't seen Paris-Nice coverage, but I like Sherwen/Liggett style and respect anyone who can talk about cycling 6 hours a day for 3 weeks straight.

I'm in the same boat here in Raleigh, North Carolina. There is a push now to get Time Warner to add OLN. Wish I could switch over to a different cable carrier, but unfortunately, Time Warner is the only cable provider in the area.

I will agree with the other poster. I was disappointed with the Paris-Nice coverage that I caught at my friend's house in Wilmington. But the tour coverage I caught was awesome. Maybe they are still working out the bugs for the season.
