feeling better, still a little tight and out of the ordinary. been stretching and walking, otherwise taking it easy (and taking aleve). going to the doc this afternoon to see if they can take a pic to see if anything's out of place. that's my litmus for getting on the trainer. otherwise, i'm sitting around, doing stuff around the house, and gaining weight FAST. still lifting and even considering getting a membership to the local club so'z i can start swimming if i'm off the bike for more than another few days. ever put on 6 pounds in 8 days? ugh! i'm thinking about rigging up a leg sling so i can ride the bike with just the left leg. elephantino has my deepest sympathies.

They live well together!

The crazy Mountian dog; composed and calm, yet only hidding the storm brewing...
The childish playful Border collie, nervous and lean; almost fragile will never stop.
The other autistic dog; the cat. Lives in a world of its own. Never bothered, has an answer for everything. Blazé, yet always curious.

Now; wife talks about babies... Maybe she got the message finally!

I saw one of those once I think. I was riding near mount Orford and four guys where coming in the opposite direction. I'm pretty sure they had that jersey on. So I was at orford wich is near Magog. So maybe they are from Magog....then again, I live in Sherbrooke about 65Km from where I saw them, maybe they where just doing the same ride I was :-)

The photo I included was taken in New Jersey on Route 9W. On weekends, I usually ride through the city, across the GWB, into Jersey, and north 'til I cross back into NY state and to Nyack or beyond (about 62 miles roundtrip). There's some really sweet riding in northern Jersey, and it's well worth the trip just to get out of the city.

During the week, there's little option other than Central Park.

A few pop music lyric quotes that sum up my views on this idea:

"Anonymity is a virtue...especially in this day and age." -Les Claypool of Primus from "Here Come the Bastards"

"All you know about me is what I've sold you." -Maynard Keenan of Tool from "Hooker with a penis"

I chose these not only for the words themselves, but also the implied meaning of the song titles when associated with the quotes. I hope you understand.

Haiku? Sure. How's this?

I understand your position and respect it. I'm not going to post my name on these threads because, well, it has to do with my aversion to be put on lists and for getting junk mail and the desire to keep my life simple and peaceful. So I will always try to retain some degree of anonymity but as time goes by and the more I hang around someplace like this, anonymity tends to erode away bit by bit. So be it.

Haven't been around here much for a few months, but here I am. I started out as Zorak on mtbr back in '97, and have always been bike_junkie over here at rbr.

I ride a Serotta Legend Ti with Record 10, live in hot & sunny Arizona and am 34 years old. Took me a few years to get my dream bike, but I lust no longer!

I'm in the market for a cyclocross bike for general riding and my 12 mile commute to work. Haven't had a mtb in over a year, but will probably get a locally-built Titus one day.

I'm hoping Lance wins the Tour again, but will be glad to see Tyler Hamilton, Jonathon Vaughters, or Fred Rodgriguez have their own victories as well. Should be a good Tour. Really hope Hincapie can win another classic this year too.

no pic sorry
The navy has sent me around the world in my short stint, Singapore, phillipines, okinowa/tokyo japan, and this pretty little island. I have been all over the US as well.
I picked up cycling when I broke my neck about two years ago and couldn't play any other sports due to the nature of the injury and had to find a sport that was low impact. I started out mountain biking and that proved to be decidedly non-low impact so I bought the Klien. Which I fell in love with and have had a torid love affair with until now, that the Kestrel has taken my attention away from her for a time. When racing season starts up next season I will have her ready though. I will be going to school and racing in the Ventura area next year. Hopefully I will be able to upgrade from five, fairly quickly due to the fact that I have around 9,000 miles under my legs in the last two years and know my way around a pack. I can't wait to get back to the competitive scene that is in socal so I can race my butt off.

I've been lurking here for a while and have asked for and received advice from a lot of nice people, and a few not so nice ones, lol. So thanks to everyone who helped me out.
I'm not a haiku-ist, and besides, my effort would pale in comparison to JS, lol. I'll leave it to the master.

- I am new to road biking, and I have been getting up to speed on getting riding shape up to par. Since I have purchased my bike, a kermit the frog green Cannondale, I have only been able to ride before work, since I have been out of town every weekend except for Mother's Day. I have been doing the South Bay Wheelmen Tuesday/Thursday Marina ride, but a half hour before them, kind of as a 'prerunner'. My first experience with road cyclists was at the 1984 Olympics, since my youth soccer team staffed a refreshment booth as a fundraiser. I just waited a long time....

I'm a 50 yr old former triathlete just trying to stay in some kind of reasonable shape. I try to get as much time on either my road or mtn bike, but other demands for my time are constant. I have now given up having lunch on a daily basis so I can at least get a run in. My favorite saying is from an old Mark Allen poster still on my wall at home: "Eat right, drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of sleep, go like hell!". I ride either a Calfee Luna Pro or a Specialized full suspension mtn bike. Ride safe and don't give in.

Working as a personal financial consultant but my background and education is in Counseling Psychology
My main ride is my 1983 Trek 400. I've also got a 1996 Giant 750.

Just finishing up my first full year riding and managed to put in 1600 miles ytd., nearly all of it on the road. I even commuted in to work a few times as well, although not nearly as much as I envisoned in the spring.

I look forward to meeting everyone and learning even more about riding! Bye for now.

Haiku is one of the most important form of traditional japanese poetry. Haiku is, today, a 17-syllable verse form
consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables. Since early days, there has been confusion between the three related terms Haiku, Hokku and Haikai. The term hokku literally means "starting verse", and was the first starting link of a much longer chain of verses known as haika. Because the hokku set the tone for the rest of the poetic chain, it enjoyed a privileged position in haikai poetry, and it was not uncommon for a poet to compose a hokku by itself without following up with the rest of the chain.
Largely through the efforts of Masaoka Shiki, this independence was formally established in the 1890s through the creation of the term haiku. This new form of poetry was to be written, read and understood as an independent poem, complete in itself, rather than part of a longer chain.
Strictly speaking, then, the history of haiku begins only in the last years of the 19th century. The famous verses of such Edo-period (1600-1868) masters as Basho, Yosa Buson, and Kobayashi Issa are properly referred to as hokku and must be placed in the perspective of the history of haikai even though they are now generally read as independent haiku. The distinction between hokku and haiku can be handled by using the terms Classical Haiku and Modern Haiku.

The history of the modern haiku dates from Masaoka Shiki's reform, begun in 1892, which established haiku as a new independent poetic form. Shiki's reform did not change two traditional elements of haiku: the division of 17 syllables into three groups of 5, 7, and 5 syllables and the inclusion of a seasonal theme.
Kawahigashi Hekigoto carried Shiki's reform further with two proposals:

1.Haiku would be truer to reality if there were no center of interest in it.
2.The importance of the poet's first impression, just as it was, of subjects taken from daily life, and of local colour to create freshness.

Sound pretty informed don't I?! Well I found it on the NET.

Fredrico, after the Italian film director who got ideas for his movies by riding the streets of Rome on his bicycle. I'm formerly Guido, after the journalist character in Frederico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita," played by Marcello Mastrioanni. My real name is Paul McKnight, 59.

Now live in Herndon, VA. Work for BusinessNOW TV magazine show as editor and cameraman.

Mainly ride the Washington and Old Dominion bike trail, which passes through Herndon a half mile away from my apartment. Will surely branch out this Spring. Average ride is now only 15 to 20 miles, but I look forward to increasing that at least once a week to 40 or beyond. Perhaps I am caught up in the nostalgia of younger days!

Ah, my main Rides, as in bikes! A 1984 DeRosa Professional, Columbus SL, 36 spoked wheels, box rims, full Campy Super Record gruppo still going strong with downtube shifters and 6 speed freewheels. I bought it new.

The other ride is an "Alpine" built by Fred Kelly in Rockville MD, 1986, SLX, more Super Record components, only heavier rims and 28C tires, and fenders, yeah, for commuting and inclement weather.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", or something like that. We are rapidly coming into a one world culture. I can walk to grocery stores from at least 6 different nationalities. The parents waiting at the bus stop with their kids in the mornings as I go off to work are from at least 4 different countries. One cannot be snooty in this world if one wants to get along.

I love the world from a bicycle. I love what riding does for fitness and health. What else can I say.

In the summer i ride the Ciöcc mostly, it´s my tri-specific bike. In the summer Asolo is used for biking to work or somewhere else where i need to leave the bike somewhere locked (can´t do that with the Ciöcc, it gets too much attention). Asolo gets also used on the Tacx in the winter. Marin gets used all year around, but perhaps more in the winter.

I'm from Frankfort, however, and return there during holiday and summer breaks to work at the Frankfort Plant Board. They're the municipal supplier of electricity, water, cable, internet, and phone to most of Frankfort. I'm employed in the electrical engineering department there, but help out the water engineers sometimes too.

My main ride is an '01 Specialized Hardrock A1 Comp FS. As of now, it's also my only ride, but I'm getting ready to fix up a '73 AMF Westpoint 3-speed, my dad's old bike. I've upgraded my 'Rock with a Duke XC 80mm fork, Deore disc/Sun Rhyno Lite wheelset, and a front Avid disc.

Words to live by...mine would be "Brother's gonna work it out." They seem silly, and are from a Willie Hutch song used in a Chemical Brothers album of the same name. I always try to look past setbacks, and see that things will be ok in the end. The slightly humourous wording also gives reference to my sense of humour, which I find very important in life.

Besides cycling, I have an obsession with music and its reproduction. Most of my money goes towards bike or music equipment. I also enjoy the vinyl sound, so I'm always picking up some old records. Other enjoyments are cars, movies, photography, and computers.

I have a website with pictures (one of me, sort of...go to pictures, night, and it's first thumbnail shown) and other info, at

Sorry, I suck at haikus :Þ

New to the RBR, but enjoy the information and opinions. I started riding last year to augment my running. I ride a late model Trek 5200 and if nothing else, I feel fast.
I rode for the first time in five months yesterday, so there were some tune-up requirements before I set out. I generally like to maintain my bike for simple fixes, so the posts are very helpful.
Have very little group riding experience, but the two (2) I have been on were comprised of great people that I had never met before and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride/race/company (Is it just me or do the last 2 miles of any ride seem to break away and end in sprints).
It is hot here (100+ ave) I can generally only get 3-4 solo short rides a week, 20 mi each, and maybe a 2 hr ride on the weekend. Bike culture here seems well hidden, but if you're out here drop me a line.
I heard the term "half-wheel" in a couple posts and it made me look at the way I ride. Though it can carry a negative connotation, it also carries some friendly, competitive undertones. This perspective summarizes the people I enjoy to spend time with, as well as my nature (can we go faster? can I go faster? wow, we're going fast) So, tempered with the company I keep, I choose to look at it as a good thing. Feel free to Half Wheel anytime(if the roads permit), and you'll get a smile out of me.
