|Ok, I'm an idiot. I took off my chainrings on my shimano ultegra crank. I can easily put the thing together except I forget what orientation the rings go in. I know that some of the teeth are a little bit smaller and they should go at 12:00 and 6:00, but can anyone tell me how they go with respect to the stamped shimano name?

|When the big ring is installed correctly, the 'chain drop prevention pin' is facing outward toward the crankarm and is lined up in the same postition as the crankarm. The small ring is installed properly the 'mark' ^ is lined up in the same postition as the crankarm at the 6 o'clock postition and the Shimano stamped wording is facing away from the crank and at the 12 o'clock position.|

|Assuming you have the new splined cranks, be very careful when you reinstall them on your bottom bracket.
1. Be sure the splines are aligned on the BB. Sometimes they "feel" like they are aligned when they aren't.
2. Completely remove the self extracting rings before you install your crankarms. Torque the hex bolts and then install the self extracting rings. If you don't, you will strip out the threads on your crankarms.

|Of the ones I've seen, the tooth count stamping faces right on the big ring and left of the other(s).|

|Just pay attention to the counterbore for the chainring bolt nut. The numbers can vary in location.|| |
