It's an arcane art assessing customs duties.Sintesi

I bought a Ksyrium wheelset from Totalcycling (search for Totalcycling if you want the whole story) and customs came to $31.17. I mean how did they determine the rim and spoke value independant of the wheel itself? Whatever, that's what I was charged. I think another guy said $27. So obviously it depends on whick customs line it goes through (mine was JFK). Also delays up to a week, may or may not occur depending on your locality, time of day and astrological sign.

I ordered a frame, component group, handlebars, wheels etc from Ireland and didn't get charged a dime for customs. Not sure why. But I am not complaining. Maybe it was just luck? Not sure if anyone else out there has had a similar experience. I would like to know, since I am on the verge of ordering another frame and groupset, and was kind of expecting that I wouldn't get tagged for customs this time either...

Don't count on not getting tagged, i think you were luckier than you realize. I have bought several things and the only think i haven't got tagged on was a pair of ksyriums from probikekit.

I guess that is what I was afraid of...but it was nice to not have the expected custom's bill not materialize
