My dad is one, so I go once a week, and always the day after any ride over 50 miles. Just go to keep my spine in line (I have horrible posture) and to relieve muscle soreness (esp. after riding the drops for waaaay too long).

Anastahl balm is the sh!t!

Been going to one since '85. The relief from the sore spots I get is unreal. One of the keys is learning to relax while he/she is working on you. It also helps if he/she relaxes the muscles with a bit of massage before the adjustment begins, things seem to move easier and with little post movement pain if any. Some use mineral ice or ultrasound to loosen up really tight muscles that might be in spasm. The initial visit can be quite steep $100 or more for xrays and after that depending on where you are, well my visit is $28 per visit. I go as needed, 5-6 times a year.

I went to one for an arthritic lower back and pain in the upper back. It was great. The upper back (shoulder area) is now pain free, and he was focusing on getting movement and motion in the lower back. He showed lots of great stretching exercices, etc. It was a bit scary the first time when he was "manipulating" the spine (the popping and cracking sounds). I had a real phobia about that, but it works. A friend of mine also swears by the acupuncture that the chiropractor offers.

I go in response to specific back problems - maybe once or twice a year. The sounds are a little discomforting at first, but the relief I get is priceless. I haven't used it for ongoing maintenance.

Thanks for replys, I was just curious. I use one as well, used to have a neighbor that was one and could get freebies, but he moved so now I have to pay. Just like you say though, the relief is priceless.
