Bike Shops in LA Area (around Santa Barbara and... Disney?)Marlon

I'm heading down to LA to visit (please don't laugh) Disneyland with my girlfriend's family, but we're going to try and sneak out to head to a bike shop and drool over bikes. Any suggestions on nearby bike shops where we might be able to escape Mickey and the rest of the commercial-Disney gang?

I swear, it wasn't my idea to go there!!!

FAST TRACK BICYCLES is the best bike shop on the west coast. Santa Barb. Dave, the owner is L.Armstrongs former mechanic for the 01 TDF. Excellent prices too

in his post, but that is one hell of a drive from Disneyland! If you are making the drive up to SB, though, pull off the 405 in Westwood and visit Helen's. If I'm not mistaken, they still sponsor UCLA's squad.

Don't feel bad about going to Disneyland, even if you're not into the rides you can hang out at the mainstreet Disney area. The have an ESPN sportszone there, plus a number of other fun things. You've probably heard of SuperGo, they have a location in Fountain Valley, just up the 405 from Disneyland area. Their new store in Laguna Hills is around 24000 sq. feet. There's an internet store called The Bike Co. that's in South Orange county as well.
Another guy mentioned the distance between Orange county and Santa Barbara, but if you are in SB by all means stop by FastTrack. I've been there and Dave is really one of the great guys in cycling. You should call first to make sure he's working that day !

I'll take a look around at the shops suggested... anything to get away from the crass commercialism that is Disney (ack).

And you're right - I'm wrong, and I'm on crack. I can't walk from Santa Barbara from Disneyland, sheesh... must get my head checked.

I don't think I've seen a bigger and better collection of ultra high end road bikes than what Hrach has at Velo Pasadena.

As mentioned earlier, Supergo in Fountain Valley is pretty close to Disneyland. Others include:

Kings in San Pedro (big on Colnagos) small but high end
Circle Cycle in Torrance-quite a large shop with alot of nice bikes (could spend an hour there)
Open Road in Pasadena -Huge and unorganized, lots of old frames and old jerseys about
for serious droolingjs
