Seat posts and hardware and such...Lone Gunman

I have been searching for a seatpost to fit on an older steel bike I am restoring. The original post is a chrome tapered post and used the old style hardware store of a seat connection that included axles and nuts and washers and stamped parts made of pig iron and weighed more than the post and seat combined to attach at the taper. I have a kalloy that does not match the restoration and while shopping the LBSs', have been seeing tapered posts, just like I have as the original part for sale. Any posters know if a clamp has been mfged (possibly BMX or MTB world)that is a slimmed down version that has micro adjust features? If so I may keep the original and get the new style clamp and be a happy camper.
