| Bianchi EV2 frame crack | Tig Feb 28, 2002 2:39 PM | | Just got back from the local LBS and the manager/riding buddy showed me his 6 month old 59 cm Bianchi EV2 with a crack in the right chain stay. He's a big guy with plenty of power, but would have never though to see the frame crack where it did... about 2 inches from the bottom bracket/chain stay weld. The crack is on the inner side of the stay and is about 3/4" long. I have seen plenty of cracks near or in a weld, but not so far away.
This is not a Bianchi or aluminum bashing post, so please keep the flames down. I'm just passing on a rare (to me at least) frame failure to those who own EV2's so you can be on the lookout. I wonder how well the lighter EV4's will fair this year?
The good news is I paid off my new Merckx and will build it up next week. |

| re: Bianchi EV2 frame crack | grandemamou Feb 28, 2002 4:35 PM | | May be a fluke. I have an EV2 with 6k on it but it's a 51 cm and I only weigh 145 lbs. I had a friend who needed a 59. He weighed about 200 lbs. My advice to him was to go with the sturdier Sl model. IMHO large frame/large rider/light AL equals trouble. I noticed that Coast was supplying each rider 2 frames an EV2 to train on and an EV4 to race on. I took that to mean it was a race only frame not an every day workhorse. |
