Colored Presta valve caps?(10 posts)

Colored Presta valve caps?Elefantino

OK, OK, I know that I have waaaaay too much time on my hands, but I have seen these things on eBay — and seen them sell on eBay.

I'm not usually one to question another's vanity (or sanity), but colored valve caps?

I didn't know anyone even USED Presta valve caps, except to store rolled-up tubes. But there they are, in colors no less.

I must be severely behind the times.

Next thing you know, someone will start an argument about Motobecane and Gregg will call it a "hot topic" ...

FWIW,
Mike
well, I use caps off-roadjw25

but that's for mud and grit reasons - nothing like a slow leak to ruin a 3 hour epic.
On road, I tend to throw one on, if only out of habit. In spring weather, I'm usually glad when I see a layer of grit and grime on the cap, and know the valve is still clean.
However, I'm not about to add alloy ones - they must add a few grams each... Seems like a waste of effort - color-coordinating your alloy nipples is far more impressive.
Do they make them shaped like dice?Softrider

I've seen those on cars, but never on a bike.

Just get a Presta to Schrader adapter and use that to attach the dice to your valve. You could even use this technic for skull valve covers or what ever else Trak-Auto has. Now if can just find a place to hang my Fuzzy Dice.

Hang the fuzzy dice from the little mirors you attach to your helmet.

You do have entirely too much time on your hands, but I have been there when I crashed two years ago..

As for valve caps, I chuck them. They really don't serve any purpose accept preventing the valve stems from puncturing the tubes when they are packaged.

I don't see why we need to be so racist; what's wrong with calling them "valves of color?"

Can't we all just get along?

Gee, I must be getting very old too. The plain black valve caps that came on the Conti tubulars seemed to color coordinate with my carbon fibre rims. I suppose if you have to have the tire color, the rim color, the nipple color, and the bike color coordinated, why not have the valve cover too?
