Motorpacing races, explain me(7 posts)

Motorpacing races, explain meWoof the dog

Track motorpacing races - whole bunch of motorcycles with a roller on the back go round and round with riders staying behind. I don't get it: whats the point if the pace is enforced by a motorcycle? A rider can only draft, and there is no effective communication between the rider and motorcycle pacer. How do motorcycle guys know how fast to go? It doesn't make sense!!!

Thanx a bunch

Not quite. The only track motorpaced event is the keirin and the point is that it is the only event that legal allows contact. Headbuts, elbows, knees, shoulders, you get the point. The bikes speed is restricted because that is not the quite the point of the event. If you are in the first couple behind the bike you get the best draft and this is where the fighting happens.

Let me see if I understand.

Speed Skating is to Crit Racing - AS - Short Track is to Motorpacing.

Is that roughly accurate?

Not accurate at allCurtis

Contact is NOT allowed in short track speed skating. You CANNOT bump or push or otherwise obstruct another skater.

That said, if you hold your line cleanly and he happens to make contact, well, that's just part of the game (rubbin's racin').

Lots of skaters are disqualified for illegal contact in short track. Apolo Ohno won his gold medal 'cuz the S. Korean skater put his left arm up to block in the final turn.

I watched worlds (or olympic or whatever) track 93 and 94 tape, where Marty won his first? gold medal. One of the events involved like ~6 riders pacing with bigger motorcycles with a roller in the back. One of the motorcycles crashed too and torn track pretty good. And like these 6 motorcycles were going around the track with riders behind each, and it was totally random - they were all around it. I think they also said that this was the last time they will have this kind of event.

So the questions I asked in my original message still stand!

Thanx a bunch

Sorry it is derney racing then. Have never seen it. Fixed distance quickest wins, unrestricted speeds. Other than that can't help. As you say yourself it is no longer done. Though I am pretty sure that it is still part of the six-day programme.
