What are the dangers of buying a carbon fibre frame used?. I've seen an epic with nice parts for sale and am quite tempted as my present bike is a steel allez which I like, but is a little heavy (I imagine the epic is a carbon version of the allez, correct??). All advice welcome.
you don't even know what the epic is???nm

I bought a used one a few years back, and I liked it for a while. Until one day, I decided to loosen the seat-post clamp so I could raise the seat a tad. When I LOOSENED the clamp, half of the clamp broke off. Since the aluminum clamp is integrated into the carbon frame, the whole frame was shot. My LBS recommended not welding it together since the heat from the torch would do unknown fun things to the glue bonding the carbon tubes to the aluminum clamp. Specialized wouldn't do anything for me since I wasn't the original owner of the bike. Just my $.02 worth...
