|I've been riding 7 years since my knee surgery (ACL/PCL/MCL replacement in left knee) w/o pain. Last two weeks I've been experiencing serious intense pain in my left knee just above my knee cap. The pain starts on the inside of knee and goes across. I swear I can hear popping and rubbing when pedaling (this isn't an occasional cracking joint sound).
Currently I'm treating with Advil and ice - knee is very swollen after riding.
Anyone experience the same or have ideas for remedies? I haven't changed saddle height or fore/aft distance recently. Suggestions???

|my right knee started hurting last week, so I stopped riding for a while, added a smaller chainring in the front and a bigger sprocket in the back, and resolved to avoid unnecessary climbs during rides.|

|Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.
And rest doesn't mean doing fewer hills. It means stop whatever you are doing that aggravates it until the pain goes away. Then come back slowly.
To maintain fitness whilst off the bike, try swimming or water walking/jogging. An elliptical trainer might be ok too.
Could be tendonitis? Be careful, it takes quite a while to resolve. If your doctor is still around a comsultation might be in order if things don't get better in a reasonable amount of time.
