We have talked all year about riding up to Gettysburg and back. Today seemed like a good day. Woke up this morning and listened to the weather forecast. Not too bad lows in the mid 20s high temps in the mid 40s winds 10-20 mph diminishing through the day. Let's ride the tandem!

When we started the sun was shining, it was 25F and the winds were blowing a bit. It is fairly rolling all the way up but there was no traffic on the back roads we were riding on.

On Saturday I had mentioned to Miss M that Collies were my favorite dog to be chased by since all you had to do was yell out "Lassie, Timmy is trapped in the burning barn," and the dog takes off running in the other direction. Today we were chased a couple of times by big dogs. Miss M tried the "Lassie" trick. It worked the first time. Didn't work on the second dog though; guess it didn't have any Collie blood in it!

We got to Gettysburg around 1:00 after 60 fun filled miles the winds had diminished a bit. We stopped in town for some water and milk and went out into the battlefield to find a nice place to eat lunch. We stopped at my favorite monuments Louisiana and Mississippi. Somehow the Southern States seem have more dramatic monuments than the Northern States do.

After a nice pleasant lunch we packed up and started home. The winds were pretty much still by then and we chatted almost the whole way back. Finished strong, seemed like we were flying the last 20 miles as the sun was sinking. 42F at the end, 105 fun filled miles.

Here is our lunch stop.

We'll save the 300K till next month when there might be enough light. 3 Sheetz to Gettysburg is a notorious big ring ride, would have been for us too if it hadn't been so windy. The Potomac Pedalers usually run it in early Sept when it is nice and hot.
Pretty cool place to ride, isn't it?look271

I've gone through sections of the battlefield while on a couple of MS 150 rides that went through there. Really eirie feeling going through there with the morning mist rising up off of those fields.
