|This will be my second year of road riding and I want to upgrade the crummy set of wheels that came on my R600. I won't be racing but I will be putting in about 100 miles a week and I plan to do a couple of centuries. I weigh 190 pounds and I don't want to spend more than $400 on a set of wheels. Should I go with a manufactured set of wheels or handbuilt? Can I have suggestions on both?

|You don't plan to race (give it time) prolly your best bet will be Dura Ace hubs laced to either Mavic open pro's or CXP's... You'll build the set for about 300-350 on the high end and have a great set of wheels that you could race on (if the urge should strike) If you want to save a bit of $$ go Ultegra and buy a sweet Thomson stem or seat post with the extra.
As far as boutiques go... I'd say given your riding etc, the best bet would be to stick to the tried and true. Now if you were gonna spend 700 or so then I'd say get the ksyrium SL... :-)
Another thought is to look on ebay for a used set of last years Ksyrium SSC and you'll score one serious kick a@@ wheelset.
