Principia Rex pro handling(5 posts)

Principia Rex pro handlingBenR

I've found a great offer for a year-old Principia frame to replace my too small OCLV. Was never impressed with the Trek handling, but that probably had part to do with bad fit.

I'm not familiar with Principias, other than they are normally out of range of college budgets, along with Colnagos, Pinarellos, etc. It would be great to hear comments about handling and bb/headtube stiffness in particular, compared to frames I'm familiar with: - Bianchi Boron XL, Trek 2100 carbon/aluminum) & OCLV, Cannondale CAAD4, and Bridgestone steel.

I like fairly twitchy bikes and stiff. Ride quality & weight are less of a concern, but I'm interested to hear about these as well. I'm not a sprinter or outrageously large(175lb), I just like the feel of a quick, solid frame.

So, tell me what you know - objective observations and mere opinions are equally valued. Thanks.

Well I can't speak to the way a Principia handles, but I can say that I will be riding a new '02 Principia REXe Pro here in about 3 weeks!

I did a ton of research on bikes and settled on Principia. I studied geometries, tt lengths...you name it. The Principia strikes me as a bike that is set up to handle on the quick side, but shares similar set up to a more stable and solid ride like a Derosa. Perhaps a Derosa with a little more edge is how I would describe it.

If you are getting a great deal, and the frame fits, I say jump on it. You will not only have a great bike, but a rather unique one too.

Good luck!

Principia also tops my list of bikes, but living in an area with rough roads I am unsure on if the ride might be a bit to harsh over say a trek OCLV.

Well...i bought a principia RSL recently.....amazed with principia....i am kinda newbie...so dun have much experience about handling stuff and all....but somebody who owns a bike shop once approached to me and said..
"if u can find me another frame that handles, and performs better than a principa.....i will give u a principia in exchange of ur frame...go test it out...no qns asked"
This though he was talking about the mtb msl pro frame...but i think it applys to all man..............why do u think i got one?

I have two Principias, a 2001 RSL and a 2002 RS6. The RSL was bought at cut price as a back up bike to a Colnago Dream plus, the RSL was so much better, I sold the Colnago and replaced it with the RS6.

The Rex pro will be lighter and stiffer than both the RSL and RS6, if you like stiff bikes you will love the Rex pro. As an added bonus the anodised finish is virtually bullet proof.
