Problem that need solution?flyinbowlofmilk

I was at my ususal LBS bike shop group ride today. When a rider bumped me or brushed real close to me while i was in the group. And to make matter worse it was raining off and on and the road was wet. He bumped me or brushed me and didn't say excuse me. This was the 2nd time this has happen to me in the past two weeks at the LBS group ride. The first time the rider said "I'm sorry",but this time the rider didn't say nothing to me when this happen. What should I do the next time a rider do this to me? The rider this time just kept on moving toward the front.

I've only raced for a couple years and could be way off base, but here are my thoughts:

It depends on your group: If you are trying to ride with a bunch of Cat 2's and 3's, deal with it and get used to riding tight. If your group is more open to all riders in the community, then you have the right to ask the rider to back off since you aren't comfortable with tight spaces and physical contact.

It also depends on the other rider: From your account, they sound like an experienced "squirrel" who is still learning how to hold their line. They won't learn unless you diplomatically point it out. If they keep it up, avoid them. On the other hand, the rider may be an old-timer. In that case, they are used to tight groups and it is most likely you that is riding into them. Contact is not bad, just stay relaxed and protect your front wheel and you will stay up. It takes practice and sometimes some lost skin and paint.

If someone is being intentionally aggressive after you have made it clear you don't like it, you have 2 options. Bump them back or find a more friendly group.

that you have a girlfirend and that you were only in the navy as you wanted an education.

maybe you need to wear a larger sized pair of shorts.

hee hee

sorry couldn't help it

but seriously .... if you think its intentional confront him with what you think and that as its a lbs ride that sort of close contact isnt necessary. ive done it during a ride very loudly and no-one had a problem. i would rather risk losing face to save skin.

youll know what to do when the situation arises.

at the risk of sounding very politcally incorrect i would just smack him one if i was certain someone was putting my health at risk. some bad things can happen in group rides at pace and isnt a game.

If he does it again, just get him off to the side after the ride, look the muthafucka in the eye real hard, and say, "If you ever touch me again, I'm gonna kick your runty little ass! Understand?" Then turn around and very calmly ride away. There's no excuse for that kind of behavior on a club ride of non-racers. This guy should realize that.

welll ...... if it wasn't a severe bump, I'd say don't blow up. just ask him to be careful. if he does it repeatedly without apologizing, you may have a problem.
