Is Performance falling apart, or am I just unlucky?cory

Just for my general store of information, has anybody else had trouble getting stuff from Performance lately? My last three orders (from about May '01 to now) have taken MONTHS to arrive. Every week there's a new problem and a new promise ("That's backordered, but we'll have it by the end of the week"...week after week). I canceled one order for shoes after four months (and got them in three days from Nashbar). One's still pending ("We expect to have those in next week"). I've been a customer since the early '80s, but I'm not going to put up with much more of this.

I've had the same problem with some Egg Beater pedals for my mountain bike. Ordered by my wife early December(for Christmas), told they would arrive by Christmas...end of December...mid-January...now end of January. We shall see.
Performance owns Nashbar(or did)-go figure.

I think that a moajority of LBS's have had egg beeters for the past month in stock....go figure

Bike Nashbar (before being bought by Performance) had their outlet store and headquarters in my hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. They had the ABSOLUTE best deals ANYWHERE. I miss that store. Nashbar has an excellent interaction with customers, and are friendly to deal with. I've had problems with Performance in the past also.

I've had no problems on my last several orders, the most recent of which was just before Xmas. Things come within a week or so.

I've had problems in the past with a couple of orders, mainly that they didn't send me a complete shipment after confirming my order. I've had better luck since I became a Team Performance member, better shipping. I always make a notation on my orders "cancel order if all items are not in stock". Send me my complete order baby or forget it. I guess the bottom line is, if you really need something, fork over the bucks and go to your LBS, because if you mail order it, there is bound to be problems (Murphy's Law).

Same old sh!t - different day.

Kmart of the bike biz.

I gave up on those bozos years ago - walk into anyone of their stores to realize how thin their stock is. Name of the game is to entice customers with low prices, keep your inventory low (i.e. high turns), and promise the world - especially in a recession - and if you actually deliver then you're a winner. It used to be called "bait and switch" in a different time. If they don't have it in stock then go somewhere else. There's more to service than advertised low prices - afterall you can't ride a (sale) price tag.

Has sh?t for selection "in stock". Try getting just about any part in a reasonable amount of time and forget it. Who cares if they are cheaper on some stuff. I usually want my whatever RIGHT NOW... damn-it... The "BIG" Denver store is a joke as well....

I have nothing but praise for Performance. I enjoy doing business with Performance because they usually has the best pricing around and are well stocked. They are willing to match prices too. I never had a problem with an out of stock situation. If you have any issues with the item they are very willing to back the product and give your money back. Some people may not like them because they are big but I think this is an asset.

Maybe it's because I go to their store in Chapel Hill, where they started, but it's usually well stocked. I'm also a Team Performance member and they ship stuff to me very fast -- 2 days max -- plus you get cash back on all you purchases to buy more gear. I just wish they carried Campy gear. One thing you have to give them credit for, at least in my experience, is they will let you return or exchange anything (assuming you haven't trashed it and kept the receipt.)

I posted this a while back, it seems like I'm not the only one that has had problems.

My last order from Performance took about a month before it was right. I had ordered a pair of shorts, but they didn't fit. I returned them asking for the next smaller size. About two weeks go by without receiving the new pair when I get get a check for about 1/3 of the total price and letter saying they no longer sell these. They were Performance Century shorts, probably their best selling shorts. Of course the check shows up on a Saturday and their customer service dept. does not work on the weekends. Finally on Monday I talk to someone and have to send them a second copy of my receipt and a copy of the check and they will refund me the rest. Another two weeks go by before I get the other check, but in the meantime the shorts have gone on sale for almost half price and they have the size I need. I give it another try and actually receive them before I get the second refund check and save $15 bucks.

My last order got sent TWICE to the wrong address (and not even the SAME wrong address) never to be seen again. Clueless customer service girl named Paula -- warning! hang up if Paula's your service rep! -- kept sending it to random addresses until finally, in depair, I thought to ask her to read off my address to me. Wasn't even going to the right STATE.

Odd, their catalogues find me with amazing regularity.

Have had nothing but trouble with Performance in recent months and am forever done ordering from them. They can't seem to ship me the right things that I order and then are very slow about refunding/exchanging and correcting their mistakes. I'm still trying to recover full return shipping on the last order they messed up. I don't care how good their prices might be, it is just not worth the hassle of dealing with them. Makes me sad because I'm a long-time customer who used to have positive things to say about them.

They made a minor screw up. It was the first time I ever ordered from them which gave me a bad impression. I paid for express shipping and they didn't mail it out for 2 days after my order.

I am quite thankful that my local shop is Speedgoat. I rarely have to look elsewhere for anything. Even though they are heavier equiped on Mountain stuff, they have alot road stuff in stock and good knowledge.
