| Clicking Kestrel | AFred Jan 28, 2002 9:15 AM | | I recently purchased a used (2001) Kestrel 200 SCi and upgraded the gruppo to Shimano Dura Ace, but left the Ultegra cranks and Cane Creek Cronos on. Whenever I stand on climbs or push hard on the cranks to sprint I hear this clicking noise that sounds like it's coming from the bottom bracket.
I've checked the cranks/chainrings for tightness and the derailluers for chain slap without resolving this problem. I thought it may be my weight (175#)on the aero wheels, but they are tight, true and properly dished.
What could this clicking noise be? |

Good luck,

| clean/grease/lube peadals and cleats... | naff geezer Jan 28, 2002 9:45 AM | | if that fails and you are still sure that the creaking is comming from downthere you just may have to pop open th bottom bracket and have a look.
good luck |
| clean/grease/lube peadals and cleats... | AFred Jan 28, 2002 11:35 AM | | The pedals are brand new Richie Road Logic, a model which I use on all my bikes. The right one has given me problems, though, with the engagement mechanism. I'll check it out, but I suspect that I'll be doing exploratory surgery on the BB before too long. I thought the Shimano BB's were pretty tough stuff. Thanks. |
| re: Clicking Kestrel | Dave Hickey Jan 28, 2002 11:51 AM | | Try removing the BB and cleaning and regreasing everything. I have a LOOK KG286 that's a similar design to the Kestrel and I have the same problem. I cannot tell you why it works, but it solved my problem. I remove and clean the BB every 2 months. |

| re: Clicking Kestrel | bikenut Jan 28, 2002 1:21 PM | | I had a similar clicking noise on my Kestrel with an Ultegra bottom bracket. I removed the BB cleaned and greased the threads, wrapped them with teflon tape and put it back together. Voila, no noise for the past year.
Hope this helps. |
| check your cleat tightness | James Jan 28, 2002 11:03 PM | | My Sidi's were making a really annoying noise, A click every pedal. so i tightened every screw on the adaptor plates and it stopped.
I have been fooled by noises that i figured were the BB, But ended up to be things way off from that. just tinker with one thing at a time.
Check for cracks too, I have the same bike and kick it's ass at 220LB, One of my best friends(ex-Kestrel employee, He made the fixture for drilling the h2o bottle cages) told me to always check. |
