I wish the past 20 winters here in VA were as innocuous. I rode 107 mi yesterday, part of it on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the clear air allowed spectacular views. January riding with no gloves and balaclava -- I could get used to that.

My father tells me about several incredible winters here in the late 60's bringing of blizzard after blizzard after blizzard. He has pictures of a nearby road walled by snow well over 6ft high. I recall some bad snow and ice storms here maybe 4-7 years ago but nothing like that as long as I've lived here.

I think I might be to blame. After last year I thought it would be a good idea to buy a snowblower. I have benn dying to try it, but no snow. My purchase has cursed the north east.

I rode home from work about an hour ago, still 43 F (had been pushing 70 a few hours earlier). I dropped into a low spot on the way home, wearing nothing better than a windbreaker, and encountered a really cold pocket of air that woke me up, but otherwise it was very mild.

What scares me is that the amount of rain in the last 8 months or so has been about like San Diego would normally have - almost nothing. I was there for over two years, and really don't want my dear VA to look that dry! Sure has been good for the riding schedule, but I'll give that up to keep the trees.

suffering from unusually warm temps here in NY, high of 51 yesterday, 48 today and 50 two days ago. The roads are completely dry with practically no snow for the area. Needless to say the rollers are collecting dust. The down side is the area is starting to suffer from a drought. I do remember 3 warm days like this in the syracuse ny region about 7 years ago so maybe it's not totally uncommon. Russ
must be global warming...Dog

but out here it's cold -- global cooling I suppose.

Enjoy it. It could be freezing any day.

One of my co-workers, from Belgium, had just gotten off the phone with someone in South Africa. It is summer there, of course, but uncommonly hot.

He said Belgium is having an unusually warm winter, too.

I wonder who, besides you, is paying the price, if this ISN'T going to be the warmest winter on record.
Nice in the Midwest tooEric16

Things have been great over here in Illinois as well. During late Dec and early Jan the temps would be in the 30s or 40s (cold but managable) and almost never dropped below 30. Just this weekend we had near 60's (I did 170 miles this weekend just in case we don't get another one!). Best of all, we've had no real snow yet (and hopefully at all). I say it's Karma, last winter sucked so nature's making up for it!
