Please help - crank question(4 posts)

Please help - crank questionMW

I have a problem....I was taking my ultegra cranks off of my bike(which I have done hundreds of times) and the Alloy self extracting bolt out of the BB, and it cracked. Which means the cranks arm is still on the bike. Has this happened to anyone? How can you get an Ultegra crank arm off, if you don't have a self extracting bolt?
Please help

put a nickle in the hole where the self extracting bolt used to reside and use a regular crank puller. it will pop right off. shimano also makes a tiny little piece that serves the same purpose. it's used to pull 105 cranks, since they don't have the aforementioned bolt. make sure the puller is tight on the threads or they will pull right out!

The tiny 105 piece that merckx is talking about looks like a little metal hat. Park also sells a crank puller that has a wider screw for use with Shimano hollow spindle cranks. Merckx' nickle has to be the cheapest and most convenient solution.
it was 1 percent inspiration, 99 percent desperation! (nm)merckx56
