I am considering ordering a set of open pros with dura ace or ultegra hubs, who has the better build quality?

Thanks for your input!

I had CC build up a set of Mavic CXP30's with Ultegra hubs several years ago. Bulletproof wheels. Never went out of true in 6000 miles. After switching to Campy, I sold'em on this forum for $100.

My current wheels are Excel "Cirrus" wheels (DA/OP/Revo's). Got lazy when I was building up my new bike last year and bought instead of built.

These are great. One touch up true in 4000 miles and I'm theoretically "heavy" for these wheels. Excellent build quality and I would not hesitate to do it again. Spoke tension and overall quality were great right out of the box. These are as close to bulletproof as I could imagine.

Good luck, sounds like you will end up with great wheels from either.

I have purchased a set from each. The last set was from Excel (Open Pros w/Chorus). You can't go wrong with either.

Thanks for the input, I am going to order from Excel, but now I have to decide between the dura-ace and ultegra hubs!

Thanks

I have had my mavic open pro clincher wheel since 1989 and is still going strong. Colorado Cyclist did a fine job. If price is not an issue I would go with Dura-ace. Have fun deciding.

I bought the same wheels but with Chorus hubs back then. I later gave them to a brother-in-law and they are still running smooth to this day!

Go with D/A! Ultegra uses larger spoke holes (2.6 vs 2.3) which will cause the spokes to break sooner.

Colorado built me up a set of Campy wheels with DT Revolution spokes and D/A hubs about 4 years back and they were still true when I sold them last year.
