I have an old Alan frame. The bottom of the bottom bracket shell has a rectangular aperature and two small "loops", one on each side of the aperature. I'm curious how the derailleur cable should be run. I'm used to having a cable guide down there but it seems the cable should just go through the loop. Is this the way it should be done? I'm a little concerned about what may happen to the shell over time with the cable wearing against the shell like that. Is this concern waranted?
It requires a piece of teflon tubing around the cable there. nmMB1

...the cable hasn't even worn through the paint yet, let alone gone into the metal. I wince whenever I look at it (in the once-every-five-years tune-up), but this was my main bike for three or four years, then has been a beater, mudrunner and commuter since then, and no problems.
