The cleat fits into the recessed area in the sole of Sidi shoes. This should get the foot as close to the pedal spindle as possible.

They use a special screw kit that eliminates the snap-shims (which you need for Sidi) and holds the base plate flush against the shoe.

On whether they have the 3-hole (Look) setup, the SPD setup or the SPD-R setup.

Any shoe that accepts the cleat will work well. Do not be obsessed with stack height -- its not very important. Its more important that they are comfortable. Get shoes that feel good.

I've been using that combo for a while now, no complaints.

Shoe fit is more important than stack height. Make sure your feet are comfortable before you start worrying anout 8.5mm.
