|Might make a major location change soon, and have considered Eugene. Anyone from there that has any advice/commentary on cycling potential and/or living there in general?
Yes, I know it rains a bit.
Vancouver Canada is also an option.

|Yes it rains a lot (around 38in/yr), but how long can you go without seeing the sun. There are plenty of decent days to ride on during the monsoon season but the 'greylight' gets very old. It's dark when you go to work and dark when you get home. Aside from that, Eugene is a very liberal environment; the great Ken Kesey lived on a farm near Eugene and 'The Dead' had family in town as well. As far as the cycling goes, Eugene is great (wet or dry). Plenty of marked paths that connect the communities, easy access to rural roads (hills and flats), and a general respect for those on two wheels from those on four.|

|I ride allot and still haven't found all the paved back roads around. Plenty of climbing and plenty of flats. We have a pretty good race sceen, one that boast the Tour Of Willamette. It does rain and can get grey but riding a bike all year is not a problem, for me it never seems that bad. There are about 7 bike shops in town, 140,000 people when UofO is going strong. The town encourges bike commuting as do allot of buisness's. We have weekly group rides on Sat & Sun all year and more during the week when the sun stay's up longer.
I have traveled all over the west coast and keep coming back. I haven't found better cycling to fit my taste. I have talked to several pro's who believe Eugene and the surrounding terrain to be some of the best road and Mountain biking in world and there is allot of it.
If you land in our area check out Paul's bikes shop, www.bicyclewayoflife.com. Burley, Co-motion & Bike Friday are here as well as several others.

I live in Hood River and snowboarding has been good!
Words can't describe the awesome, little to no traffic biking around here. Bring the bike!
If you're here Saturday, meet in front of Discover Bikes at 8:00 for an awesome group ride; definitely not a hammerfest.

|Eugene is a lovely town and the riding around it is great, but given a choice between that and Vancouver, I'd choose Vancouver in a hamster's heartbeat. It's a much more diverse and interesting city (if you like cities), with a civic culture that embraces bicycling as a mode of public transportation and more clubs and shops than you could shake a pedal wrench at. Pacific NW winters are dreary, but you're going to have that problem anywhere from N. California to Juneau.
Congratulations on having to make that choice--it's a "win" regardless of how you go.
