1st ride since July 5th and knee surgery!RaiderMike

I tore my ACL in July of last year, and had surgery to fix it in Sept. My doc cleared me to ride again last week so this morning I decided to go for a ride. I just built up my first road bike and was hoping to ride it but the weather was ugly so I broke out the mountain bike instead. I tried to concentrate on 85 RPM's instead of speed and rode 11.5 miles with some small hills and a .7 mile 6% grade hill. It took me 49 minutes and averaged out to a little over 14 mph about 5 mph slower than my average on the same loop last year. I rode out of the saddle a little and it didnt bother my knee so I'm pumped up.My operated leg is still about 1" smaller in diameter than my good leg so I still have a ways to go until I am 100% muscle strength in that leg. When the weather clears up I will break out the road bike for its 1st. ride

It sounds like the exploratory first ride back went well. If you get some nice weather this winter and spring, you should be in pretty good shape by summer.

Anterior cruciate ligament. Its 1 of 4 major ligaments in your knee. I tore it playing football, and they took a section of the tendon that connects my kneecap and lower leg, drilled a hole diagonally through the upper and lower leg bones, strung the ligament through, and attatched it with titanium screws in place of the torn ligament. I was in surgery for 5 hours, and have been doing physical therapy 5 times a week for 4 months. I wouldnt wish it upon anyone.

We've been off almost since the same day. You beat me back.

Great that you're back, though. Congrats!

... I had "baby" surgery compared to you!

I had torn meniscus repaired early in '00 and was back up to speed by the end of that season... You're doing great for the full blown ACL!

Remember to ease back in (I had a couple of 2 mile... and an hour on the bike kinda rides) and look towards your long term goals.

I was also blessed by a couple of riding budz who wouldn't drop me on those early 10 - 20 mile (10 mph) rides... great motivation!

Good luck!!!
