Last year he finished the Giro AND won the final stage. He's done that before at least once, maybe twice.
I think he meant THE Tour...TJeanloz

The Giro is not a Tour- it's a Giro. The coresponding statement is that I've won the Tour because of my victory at the Tour d'Industrial Park.
According the UCI...mr_spin

Sorry, but the Giro is classified as a Grand Tour. The same as the Tour de France and the Vuelta. All these races have characters of their own, but they are all three-week stage races with 2000 meter mountains, time trials, etc. If someone can finish one, it's quite an accomplishment. Especially someone like Mario, who is not built for stage racing. To win the final stage is even more of an accomplishment.

As far as I can tell, your Tour d'Industrial Park is not classified as a Grand Tour. Except maybe in your own mind. And that's OK. I hope you finish. Try to win the final stage, too.

It's true that the Giro is a Grand Tour, but I've never heard anybody refer to winning it (or racing it) as having won (or raced) "a Tour". That statement implies winning (or riding) the Tour de France. It is nitpicking, but as far as cycling is concerned, Super Mario has never finished a Tour.

Interesting that you speak for all of cycling. Don't count me in that group. I guess I stand with guys like Simoni, Garzelli, Pantani, Indurain, Merckx, etc. (I stand way, way, way in the back--so far back you can't see me.)

Anyway, the translation of "Giro d'Italia" in English is "Tour of Italy." Therefore, when speaking English, it is proper to refer to it as a Tour. Educated cycling fans on the other hand, always refer to the Giro as "The Giro."

So let us now turn to deductive logic for a proof:

The Giro d'Italia translates to "Tour of Italy."
Mario has finished the Giro d'Italia.
Therefore, Mario has finished a Tour.
I can get myself out of this...TJeanloz

The original poster posted 'Tour' with a capital 'T' meaning that it references a proper noun- thus not any tour, but a specific 'Tour'- the Tour de France....

Anyway, we can be fairly certain that the original poster meant to indicate that Mario Cipollini has never finished the Tour de France. His failure to complete a Tour de France is a source of disapointment for himself and his fans.

And no, nobody except Adrian Karstan call the Giro the Tour of Italy.

I meant the Tour of France. Of course he can't wimp out in the Giro, he's Italian. His sponsers would fire him. I love how he always says he has an illness right before the mountains. At least be honest and say, hey, I've got my 3 stages and those mountians look pretty nasty. I'm going to the beach for the rest of the month.

Zebra stripes? C'mon, Mario! You see, there's a thing called...I forget it now...oh yeah, TASTE, right, and it's a very important thing to have. I think his rock-star image gets to his head a bit too often.

Reminds me of the trashy stuff that all the big-hair bands of the '80s used to wear. He should be ashamed of himself.

The only person having fun at this event is Cippo. The chick in the middle is thinking
" I should have done that perfume add instead of agreeing to wear this outfit". The woman
in black is thinking " Cippo's good looking an all but does he have to shout his own name
while were having sex". And the dude at the back is thinking " I'm sure the invite said fancy dress?"

CHEERS.
