This is a great story about how Hampsten somehow survived the rainy, snow covered Gavia Pass ascent and took over the pink jersey back in 1988, when he won the Giro d'Italia. It is inspirational and well worth reading.

and Andy will tell you the story himself. Amazingly nice guy. He said that these days, they would have cancelled the stage due to weather. That's a vacation that will be hard to top.
