Have a quick question... anyone know the head-tube size on the 2001 TCR-1's? Is it 1" or 1 1/8".
1" for 2001 TCR, 1 1/8 for 2002 TCRwettap

...the fork seems to be loose in the head tube. This is my first road bike, my first Giant, and my first integrated headset. I road a GT Xizang mountain bike with a CK headset so... for some reason, I'm not grasping this new concept. The race fits tightly around the steer tube, but the bearing have play, about 1/8" play. Yet they fit perfectly into the bike's headtube, thus leaving me to deduce that the headtube is 1 1/8" and the fork is 1". Am I crazy? I don't really want to go to my LBS b/c I figure the only way to learn something is to do it yourself. I'm not inept in the mechanical ways. I'm a friggin' engineer. Anyway... any and all help is appreciated.

I have a 2001 TCR... and you are correct. the headtube is 1 1/8" and the fork 1". My giant came with a spacer that went around the fork. It came that way directly from giant.

So does the shim, or spacer, fit down the entire length of the headtube so it covers the steer tube at both bearings?

Either way... What a pain.

yes it does, hasn't been a problem, unless ofcourse you dont have the spacer. It does not cover the end of the tube that the headset covers, only within steering tube.
Ok, so...SilentBob

...it should cover from bearing to bearing within the head tube, right? I'll check it out when I get home. I might post again if I'm still lost. Thanks for the help.
