i asked a while back about the existence of 13-23 cassettes.

finding ultegra options but not dura ace, i was dissapointed

looking at the diagrams on the euro shimano site, it shows that the ultegra 13-23 cassette construction is as such

13-14-15-{16-17}-{18-19-21}-23

the dura ace 12-21 is almost identical at

12-13-14-15-{16-17}-{18-19-21}

my question is would i be able to get a 12-21 dura ace cassette, remove the 12, and put on the separate ultegra 23T cog? where would i find this single piece? (branfordbike doesnt have it listed)

Thanks for indulging my weight weenie-ness

Just buy a Shimano 105 9 spd 13-23 cassette. If you're a REAL weight weenie get a full Ti one from Cycle Dynamics. Get it (cost $185) from

If you have a 12-21 DurAce/Ultegra cassette then you can get a 23 tooth Ti cog from CD for $30 install it and drop the 12.I got a 25 tooth Ti cog from CD to add to my 12-23 DurAce cassette to make it a 10 spd one. I previously added a 11 tooth DurAce cog and lockring, which I remove when running the 25 tooth. This required some filing of the spacers, etc, but it works perfectly.So now I have either a 11-23 or 12-25 cassette that is light and WAY cheaper than Campy Record 10.
