long inseam gal and crank length ???? help pleaseCT1

I'm building a bike for a gal who has a very long inseam (probably 34"+) and could use some insight regarding crank length. FWIW: the bike setup is for a strong athlete but novice rider who will likely ride several K miles/year.

Conventional wisdom (for a guy) would be to use 175mm cranks but I'm not sure if there isn't a fudge factor for gender. Any experience from tall gals would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks JohnG

Guy or Gal, that is a bit of a personal preferance. I would say 172.5 or 175 if she is a powerful climber. 172.5 if she is a sprinter. However, both will work fine I'm sure. E-mail me and I'll get you in touch with a trainer who has worked with several Women's teams. He can give specifics. dean_william@email.msn.com

If she's going to ride the road all the time, 175 might be a bit cumbersome. However, I imagine here at roadbikereview, there might be a bigger is better attitude. I feel as though bigger is slower. Spinning hard and really fast is where it's at(speed=displacement). If this girl is 6'2" I might put on 175's. But I believe in spinning really hard and fast and would not hesitate putting on a 170's. But for a cross type situation or if she's a big girl, 172.5 will work too.
