any significant difference between Look KG 281 and KG 241Maverick

well ppl i just need to know if there's any diffence between the KG281 and KG241 (apart from the model no. of course!) the weight, climbing ability, ride characteristics etc.
as far as i know, the pros rode the KG281 in the TdF. is it worth the extra $$$ getting the 281 when you could actually get the 241 at a fraction of the price?? one more thing, is it true that the KG241 is made in Taiwan??
can't seem to find any info on these road frames in the Net.
btw how much is the KG241??Maverick

my lbs is currently offering me the 241 for US$526 for both frame and fork. is that cheap?? also heard that you need to get the LOOK carbon seatpost to go with the frame, and that's a pretty darn expensive piece of seatpost! is there any seatpost compatible with original LOOK carbon??
btw how much is the KG241??Dave Hickey

That's a great price on the 241. You don't need a LOOK post but you do need a 25.0 post. American classic and ITM both sell 25.0 seatposts. You can also buy old Dura Ace and Campy 25.0 post on ebay. I paid $25.00 for mine on ebay. The LOOK post costs $165+, don't buy one unless you really want a carbon post. Email me at dhickey@caribbeantrans.com if you need a post. I have a couple of different 25.0 posts I'll sell you cheap.

Ride characteristics are very close. The 281 is a little lighter and stiffer. The 281 has variable shaped tubes while the 241 has round tubes. If I had to have only one, I'd get the 241. I don't see that big of difference between the two. It's true the 241 is made in Taiwan.
The LOOK 281 and 261 are made in France. The 241 and the 386 are made in Taiwan.

thanks for the info.
well, seriously, i've always doubt the quality of those frames made in Taiwan. have you ever experience problem on your KG241??
i ride on pretty bad roads at my place, therefore i need to find a frame which is not too stiff (for comfort) but at the same time good on climbs. how's the ride characteristic of the 241??

btw what's the difference between the 241 and 386??

I had a 22mph crash on my 241 and it came through without a scratch( unfortunatly I didn't). The 241 is a very well put together frame. It also has a very forgiving ride. The 386 is all carbon and is similar to the Trek OCLV frames while the 241(and 281) have carbon tubes bonded to aluminum lugs.

heard that frames made will carbon tubes bonded with Alu lugs wont last, has a certain lifespan or something. well, i'm currently riding one with carbon tubes and Al lugs and it really flexes like mad when you hammer up hill. it's similar to riding a piece of plastic. energy is all wasted, a climber's nightmare. btw i'm a serious climber and i hope the 241 is a much better frame than my present one.

That was true 10-12 years ago. The first generation Carbon/Aluminum frames were very flexy and had joint problems. The current generation frames don't have either of these problems

Are you sure the 386 is made in Taiwan?

Yes, the 386, 286 and the 186 were made in Taiwan. If you look at a KHS Turbo Carbon frame and the LOOK KG386, They are the same frame. Chucks Bikes also used to sell a no badged version of the same bike. He even said in his ads that the frame is the same " as a very famous French company". They are made by Advance Composites. I'm not bashing the Taiwan bikes, I have one. There is nothing wrong with their quality. Advance Composites is one of the largest manufactures of carbon components. They make Golf clubs and many other carbon parts.
What about 2002 361 vs 381litespeedcat

I am considering the 2002 KG 361 or the KG 381i. I can get the kg 361 with ergopost and carbostem for $1,000 or the KG 381i equipped the same but with a cane creek headset for $2,000. Any advice or suggestions? I have a litespeed so I am not in a hurry to get the second rig. Is there a $1,000 difference?

Thanks, Andrew

The 381i will be nice but it aint "worth" 2K. Of course I don't think any frame is worth 2K.

Wait till mid year and the 381 will be available for a LOT less.... my guess is around 1300.

Where do you think the best place to get one in mid year would be, price wise?

Is it true about the 361 being made in Taiwan?

Thanks, Andrew

email me at johnnymg2@yahoo.com for source info.

I don't know the origin of the 361. It looks like a nice frame regardless of it's origin.
