I am tossing around some ideas and want to know what others may think. What is the best bike(complete)under $2,000?
GVH bikes, you pick'mbadabill

GVH has a bunch of frames that will build up with campy chorus or shimano ultegra for less than 2 grand. The Landsharks are a great deal if they fit your size. My Shark is the best riding bike I have owned. If you are sure of your size GVH is the best deal around.
I better not say anything.firstrax

I have a crashed 2000 Bianchi Veloce that, if I sold to you for two grand, would be the best $2,000 bike (for me!).

Failing that, a Seven Odonata charged to someone else's credit card...

Seriously, this type of question is kinda impossible to answer. Do you plan to race, competition? Do Charity Rides and weekend credit card touring? How many miles a year will you ride? How old are you? Is performance more important than comfort?

It's highly unlikely that the "Best" bike for a 19 year old who does Criteriums would be the same "Best" bike for a 50 year-old who does charity rides.

The answers to those questions will, at least, narrow the field.

Go ride some bikes at different local bike shops. See what feels good to you. Bikes are very subjective.
Eddy Merckx $1270, Gios Compact Pro $1295, etc.Dog Breath

The best bike under $2000 is the one you will ride far, with enthusiasm over a long period of time. I would recommend a steel bike with Chorus unless you are going to be doing extreme competitions. This is by no means a complete list, but it does show that there are some great deals beyond SuperGo, etc.

GVH Bikes:

Eddy Merckx Corsa w/Chorus: $1775
Eddy Merckx Corsa w/Ultegra: $1470
Eddy Merckx Corsa w/105 and DT shift: $1270

Viner Competition w/Ultegra STI $1295

Viner Nemo lots of them under $2000.

Colorado Cyclist:
(Buy the frame only if you don't like their build kit)
Tommasini Sintesi w/Ultegra $1695

Excel Sports:
(If you don't like their tacky build kit purchase frame only)

Gios Compact Pro w/Chorus $1850
Gios Compact Pro w/Dura Ace $1995
Gios Compact Pro w/105 $1395
Gios Compact Pro w/Veloce $1295
Gio Compact Pro w/Ultegra or Daytona $1550
Macalu (LITESPEED) w/105 $1795
Macalu (LITESPEED) w/Ultegra or Daytona $1945
Macalu (Made in Russian Colnago factory) w/Ultegra $1999
Excel build kit is tacky?kenyee

Buy a used $2,000 bike for about $1,200 and use the rest of the money for a vacation.
