i am looking to buy my first road bike, for use of riding in general but also for triathlons during the summer. my lbs has put together a good arguement in favor of a giant ocr 2 over a trek 1200 and cannondale r400. i was told the giant has a better frame than trek, same components as cannondale (sora group, any feelings on that?), and also has a more compact frame to keep me aero. it also comes with clipless where trek doesn't, but is limited on sizes (wants to put me on a medium, i'm just under 6'1"). your opinions on any or all of this will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I'm 5' 11" and the Medium Giant is a bit too small for me, so I kind of doubt it would fit properly for you. I think people over 6' are generally looking at the Large. Sounds like your LBS wants to make a sale or don't know road bikes very well (it's typical of mtbers to try to fit people on road bikes that are too small). In terms of quality those bikes are all pretty close--concentrate on fit. Did you try the Trek in the 58? Also check out Bianchi in that price range. Good luck.

At this price range fit is your main concern. At 6'1" you should be on a large. I am 5'10" and rode a medium TCR. the giant is a good bike, it was a little harsh for me but a lot of riders love them.

No opinions or experience on Giant. I do tell friends who ask about C'dale to get the 600 not the 400. I've done repair work on charity rides and seen an unusual number of broken spokes on rear wheels on the C'dale 400's. Tiagra parts also look to be a worthwhile upgrade over Sora both in quality and that 9 speeds make a better candidate for upgrades than 8. Whatever you get, be very sure of the fit!

The C'dale comes with Tiagra also and the jump from the 400 to the 500 also gives you a caad4 instead of the caad3.
Trek 1200 comes with tiagrasurf

No pedals on the 1200 but the giant has Sora. Also the Trek 1200 frame is good, its the 1000 frame that sucks. You might fit a 60 on the Trek.
