|I've tried a lot and decided I'm a big Cliff Bar guy. If you shop around you can usually find them for 99 cents a pop, too. Most all of he flavors are good, though I'm not nuts about the new Java Blast iced bar, or whatever it's called (whole coffee beans inside, too much for me!). The chocolate almond fudge is a particular favorite. Energy-wise, I think they're all pretty similar.|

|Cliff bars are hard to beat. You can generally get them cheaper if you buy a whole dozen at REI, which will let you mix different flavors. I like the Chocolate Almond, Cookies and Cream and Apricot best, but they all taste pretty good.|

|33 cents each when you buy a box of 24 at BJ's or Sam's Club. They have as many carbs as most energy bars, are low in fat, don't taste like cardboard or bird seed, are easily digested, provide quick energy.
And while you may think that you would look like a dork when you pull out Snap, Crackle and Pop at the 40-mile mark, it has been my experience that most others on the road are envious.
You can also make your own, wrap them in cling wrap and save lots o' money.
Anything else is a waste of money, IMNSHO.

|for riding, my preferences (in order) are: (1) Clif Cranberry Apple Cherry; (2) Clif Carrot Cake; and (3) Balance Yogurt Berry Plus. I do not like peanuts and chocolate is not high on my list of favorites. Insofar as Pop Tarts are concerned, my preference is the same as Jack S.|

|If I'm out for a real long time I use Balance Bar Outdoors - peanut flavor - to get a little protein. If you try a Pay Day wait until you're not breathing hard. You don't want to inhale a peanut!|

|Some university did a study (sorry cant remember the source) that compared Power bars, Clif bars and the like and the winner was Fig Newtons. They couldn't explain why, but the results showed they worked the best for endurance activities.|

|Are fig newtons what we call fig rolls in the UK - sort of sweet soft pastry/biscuit rolled around a mushy fig centre?|
|Sounds much the same. nm...||dzrider|
