One bracket loosening out of 8,400 units sold? What a bunch of crap. All this does is raise the cost to consumers. Whatever happened to checking your equipment before you ride? If someone sues everytime they forget to tighten a bolt, there's no hope for consumer products.

This is a voluntary recall, you make it sound like the CPSC is forcing Profile to recall the bars. From experience I can tell you that what generally happens in a situation like this is the manufacturer will get a report that the failure happened (by lawsuit or other means) and will discuss the problem with the product engineer. The engineer will determine if the failure was caused by improper installation or a product defect. If it's determined that the product has the defect the manufacturer contact the CPSC to report the recall. The CPSC can mandate that a company recalls a product if there is evidence that the product is defective. But as we've seen with the Ford Explorers it takes a hell of a lot more than 1 failure for the commission to mandate a recall.

Would you prefer we go back to the days of snake oil salesman and the buyer beware mentality. Our economy does so well because when you by something there is a reasonable amount of assurance the product will not fail and cause an injury. Are you going to check every bolt on your car before you drive it.

I've had a rough week so please try to argue with me.

...you make a good argument of concern for others in such a nasty way. Could you have a rough week elsewhere?

I just hate it when somebody starts spewing stuff that they have no clue about. Normally I can ignore it but since it was tacked onto my post I felt I needed to respond, I may have dropped the hammer kind of hard.

And yes I could have a bad week elsewhere but then you would miss out on my sparkling personality.
