|was it a month or more ago when this topic was hashed out? my take was that, while mtbs and cruisers can be found from the LBS to online catalogs to the local department and discont store, road bikes were certainly not "mainstream", and my litmus test involved seeing a road bike at a department or toy store.
well, guess what i saw at toys-r-us yesterday? next to the pacific full-suspension mountain bike and just across the aisle from the miniature radio flyer retro cruiser for those with a 14" inseam (it was actually a SS fixie for tony-rominger-wannabe toddlers), was a red, white and blue road bike, "amx" or something, i can't remember 'cause my wife was dragging me away to look at toy boxes or something.
all i can remember exactly is that is was a short frame, had tektro brakes, and the paint job was pretty similar to the new colnago "stars and stripes" c40. the bike cost $300.
