ten foot 2x4
can of exterior house paint (leftover from the shed)
paint brush
a bunch of plastic coated hooks
five 3.5" long lag bolts
socket driver, extender, socket to fit lag bolt heads
drill
1" hole bit (not sure what it's called)
smaller bit
step ladder
stud finder
measuring tape
pencil
beer

measured 24" from the wall, every 24" lengthwise, checking for studs and verifying with the small drill bit/exploratory holes. painted the 2x4, let sit to dry. re-checked measurements on ceiling and transposed to then dry 2x4. drilled counter-sink holes for heads of lag bolts using "hole bit" or whatever that thing's called. drilled hole through center of each counter-sink hole with smaller bit. made same holes on ceiling with smaller bit. inserted lag bolts 1, 3, 5 'til they just passed the side of 2x4 that would be facing the ceiling. lifted overhead and drove center lag bolt into ceiling, cursed loudly and repeatedly. drove 1 and 3, then inserted and drove 2 and 4. used small bit to make holes for hooks, inserted hooks overhead, cursed more. wished i had some beer. it was too early in the day.

You can put the hooks closer together, and thus hold more bikes, if you alternate hanging by the front wheel and rear wheel.

i'm either going to leave them leaning or put 'em on wall mounts (arm of mount under top tube). notice i've left space for the merckx, right at the end, once it's hatched.

thanks!
