The largest predator or overt threat to a rider round here aside from another human being would be coyote... Deer can get randy and occasionally trot alongside... but mostly, it's smaller stuff... at any rate... when riding after dark, I'm glad I've got a bit of speed... I never stop to investigate...

There's one little stretch of woods I pass once or twice daily. Something in there always rustles, but I've yet to see it. I passed there today during daylight, and could not see what was making the noise. Squirrels is my guess.
