have acquired a 20 year old Carlton Corsair (for £10 !!!). The frame I will get resprayed but it needs new wheels. The originals are 27 1/4 inch, can I put 700 size wheels on ?. Any comments or info would be greatly welcomed.

The rims will sit 4mm lower. Can your brake pads adjust that low? If not, you will need to have a new fork and a new rear brake bridge. Is it really worth it for a $10 bike?

There are sources for 27" rims and tires... You might opt to retain it's stock equipment (either rebuilt or new).
